We've all been there. You get home after a busy day, dump a handful of receipts on your desk, and promise yourself you'll log them later.
Later never comes. By the time you get around to it, the ink has faded, you've lost half of them, and the thought of manually typing in amounts makes you want to close your laptop and forget the whole thing.
That's exactly why we built AI receipt scanning into YUMO.
How It Works
- Open YUMO and tap the camera icon
- Point your phone at the receipt — the AI processes it instantly
- Review the extracted details — amount, vendor, date, and category are pre-filled
- Save — done. The expense is logged.
The whole process takes about 5 seconds. Compare that to manually opening a spreadsheet, finding the right column, typing the date, the amount, the vendor name, the category... you're looking at 2-3 minutes per receipt.
If you have 10 receipts a week, that's 20-30 minutes saved every single week — just on data entry.
What the AI Extracts
YUMO's scanner doesn't just read the total. It identifies:
- Total amount — the bottom line you paid
- Vendor/store name — who you paid
- Date — when the purchase happened
- Individual items — line items on the receipt (where legible)
- Suggested category — YUMO guesses whether it's food, transport, supplies, etc.
You can edit any of these before saving, but in most cases the AI gets it right.
Works With Messy Receipts Too
Real-world receipts aren't clean. They're crumpled, faded, partially torn, printed on thermal paper that smudges. YUMO's AI is trained on real receipt data — not perfect lab images.
It handles:
- Faded thermal paper receipts
- Handwritten receipts
- Receipts in different currencies
- Multi-item receipts
- Receipts with tips and tax breakdowns
It's not perfect 100% of the time (no AI is), but it gets you 90% of the way there — and the other 10% is a quick edit, not manual entry from scratch.
Batch Scanning
Got a week's worth of receipts piled up? YUMO supports scanning multiple receipts in one session. Scan, review, save, next. No need to exit and re-enter the scanner.
Why This Matters for Your Business
Expense tracking isn't about being organised for the sake of it. It's about:
- Knowing your real costs — can't optimise what you don't measure
- Tax deductions — untracked expenses are missed deductions
- Client billing — reimbursable expenses need documentation
- Peace of mind — no more shoebox of crumpled receipts at tax time
Every receipt you scan is a data point that helps you understand your business better.
The Old Way vs. The YUMO Way
| Manual Entry | YUMO AI Scan | |
|---|---|---|
| Time per receipt | 2-3 minutes | 5 seconds |
| Error rate | High (typos, wrong amounts) | Low (AI-extracted) |
| Categorisation | You decide every time | Auto-suggested |
| Receipt storage | Paper pile or folder | Digital, searchable |
| Weekly time (10 receipts) | 25 minutes | 1 minute |
Over a year, that's roughly 20 hours saved — nearly three full working days you get back.
Try It
Download YUMO, snap your first receipt, and see how fast expense tracking can be. No signup required to try the scanner — just open the app and point your camera.
Your shoebox of receipts is about to become obsolete.
